Though we understand you want fast results, a strong whitening toothpaste (one with a high RDA value – more on this later) can actually make your teeth look yellow over time.
Did you know that tooth enamel is the hardest substance in the body? Despite this, the enamel can be abraded to reveal the underlying dentine. Not only can this cause sensitivity, but it can give the teeth a yellowish appearance. This is how a highly abrasive toothpaste can make your teeth look yellow (and feel uncomfortable!) over time.
Remember we mentioned RDA? This stands for radioactive dentine abrasivity and is a scale that was created to measure how abrasive a toothpaste is. Toothpastes with an RDA value of 100 or more are considered abrasive and can wear away the enamel. This is why it's better to use a toothpaste with a lower RDA value – such as our Anti-Plaque + Whitening toothpaste – as it can whiten teeth without abrading the enamel, making it safe for daily use.
